Vulcan: The Embodiment of Innovation Over the Years

When it comes to foodservice equipment, the name “Vulcan” and the word “innovation” are essentially synonymous. With a breadth and depth of products preferred by chefs, operators and restaurant owners alike for their masterful design and precision performance, Vulcan’s 150-year-old journey has been guided by one overarching theme: a commitment to pushing the boundaries of commercial kitchen performance.

From Humble Origins…

Vulcan’s origins date back to the mid-1860s to a Louisville, Kentucky, foundry, which would eventually become the Hart Manufacturing Company. The trademark Vulcan name didn’t appear until 1890 with the establishment of the Vulcan Gas Heating Company. In 1949, the two companies merged to form Vulcan-Hart, which continued to expand and grow thanks to a winning combination of acquisitions and research and development.

And so the Vulcan tradition of innovation was born.

…To Modern-Day Icon in State of the Art Commercial Kitchen Equipment

Today, Vulcan is owned by Illinois Tool Works (ITW), one of the world’s leading diversified manufacturers of specialized industrial equipment, consumables, and related service businesses. ITW’s 80/20 business process, customer-back innovation, robust team of engineers and scientists, and decentralized entrepreneurial culture make it the perfect partner for positioning Vulcan for ongoing growth and innovation.

One of the latest state-of-the-art advancements keeping Vulcan products on the cutting-edge of commercial cooking? Vulcan’s new VC5G Convection Oven. The oven features the industry’s first removable dishwasher-safe doors, making cleaning and maintenance a breeze for end users. Just lift off both oven doors and put them in a dishwasher or 3-compartment sink for easy cleaning.  The VC5G’s exclusive grab-and-go oven racks simplify the safe removal of oven pans.  These types of end-user focused features are just some of the reasons why the VC5G was recently awarded the Kitchen Innovations® 2017 Award presented by the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show®.

Two other Vulcan products also received this prestigious award in 2016:  The ABC Combi Oven and the LWE Steamer. The ABC Combi Oven leads the way in ease of use and innovative controls. The ABC makes combi cooking easy by featuring only three, simple knobs for time, temperature and humidity. An added benefit? Just set the time and temperature as you would in a traditional convection oven, and the ABC Combi automatically sets the perfect humidity level providing consistent results, every time.  The LWE Steamer saves the end-user 50% in energy usage and 90% in water compared to traditional models. It is just one of numerous Vulcan top performing ENERGY STAR® certified equipment that uniquely serves the needs of today’s busy, bottom-line-minded foodservice operators.

Additionally, ITW and its other commercial food equipment manufacturers, including Hobart, Baxter, Stero, Traulsen, Wittco and Wolf, build high performance kitchen and food preparation equipment that provides superior energy and resource efficiency. This focus has resulted in the company earning ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence awards since 2010 after receiving back-to-back Partner of the Year awards in 2008 and 2009.

Best in Class Foodservice and Restaurant Equipmen

Given its eschewing of the ordinary for the extraordinary, it’s hardly a surprise that Vulcan has consistently received Best in Class Awards from Foodservice Equipment & Supplies Magazine.  At Vulcan, we’re proud of our legacy. But even more than that, we’re excited about what lies ahead. We look forward to helping our partners produce even more spectacular results with our innovative cooking solutions.
